bringing us back to the land that was and continues to be the heart of its work: Torre del Greco. The allure of
this precious gem had already fascinated our great-grandfather, Commendatore Vincenzo Piscopo.

He was a tireless and ingenious merchant by background – his father Antonio conceived a process of restoring the original color to the yellowish and corroded corals – his craftsmanship in creating coral objects and jewelry of incomparable beauty was recognized by everyone, and as a result to that it gained people’s respect but also the envy of every jewelers .

It was him, indeed, who in the early twentieth century decided to donate to Torre del Greco the appropriate wide appeal, thus, he founded the PERMANENT EXHIBITION of Coral, whose extraordinary feat and his pride are also remembered in the book “FRANCESCA E NUNZIATA” by Maria Orsini Natale.

[…] You could see, all over the street, baskets full of coral branches still scented from the sea, stalls with women and men sitting by the doorway and handing with dexterity pincers and burins, outside in the open, pretending not to have any secrets.
That day she and her son met with Don Vincenzo Piscopo, a dear friend and “the coral master”.

[…] Every time Francesca gave birth, he sent her the red coral crushed into the porphyry mortar, because the woman who had just given birth could ingest the powder in a cordial, in order to reinforce her milk, this is what Mariuccia had told her.
Don Vincenzo – ingenious, lively, braggart and good-natured – showed off his existing businesses, at that time already fortunate. And they were, indeed.

He was fanatic for Japanese coral. He was enchanted by its pale pink, in fact, he had bought it, traded it and successfully imposed it on a market that was still linked to the vermilion color of the Mediterranean. At the meeting, Nunziata recalled, being offered a weak coffee, how much Don Vincenzino was happy to tell about the coral flowers created by him. They were rose brooches with very delicate petals worn by princesses and
queens on their breasts, and yearned so much for by the most famous jewelers.

[…] But first, changing subject, he had boasted of another his initiative by showing the basis of a new construction. The building, he explained, would have hosted his new factory and along with a permanent exhibition of his artifacts.

The coral that he had molded, apart from the one exported outside Italy, was sold in Florence, Venice, Rome and Naples, except where it was worked. In the meantime, through their territory – so much pleasant – passed all the wealthy foreigners who went to Pompeii, Sorrento and Amalfi. Why not stop those pleasure travelers with a Permanent Exhibition and let them buy some coral souvenirs directly at Torre del Greco where it was
produced? At the same time they could see all the stages of the craftsmanship and the skills of the craftsmen.

He had thought about it and he wanted to try the experiment, hoping it would go well […] with the Blessed Virgin Mary’s help.[…] And he was sly smiling, confident of his pursuit, so confident that later, before the furlough, he secretly confided to his guests his desire to realize another of those “Factories” and because of that he was negotiating for some land, far from downtown, but close to that track of highway that would
connect Naples to Pompeii. […]
